Case Study: Hush Pod and Skyline Enterprises

 

Skyline Enterprises HQ in Queenstown has new offices under construction – in the meantime, they had moved into in a temporary open-plan office. As Skyline has multiple locations internationally, a lot of the team’s work need to be done over video calls or confidential meetings, something Skyline used to be able to do in their previous premises that housed individual offices, but is a challenge with their current open-plan setup.

Andrew Moseley sits down with Danny Luke, GM International Luge Development at Skyline Enterprises to chat about why they needed an acoustic pod, and the benefits of having a quiet, private space to have phone calls and meetings, now that they started using the Hush pod. The installation was carried out in July 2020 by the team from Sektor and Ergostyle. Check out the installation time-lapse video here:

Andrew:
Hi I’m Andrew from Sektor. I look after the ergonomics range here in New Zealand. And today we're in Queenstown, where we've just recently installed an acoustic pod for Skyline Enterprises. Now as you can see, their new office is under construction, so the pod is not in here, but we're actually going to go to their temporary offices which is just up the road, so come follow me.

Andrew:
Much warmer in here! Alright I’m joined here by Danny. How are you mate?

Danny:
Good buddy, it’s good to see you.

Andrew:
Let's go have a chat in the pod eh?

Danny:
Cheers!

Andrew:
So Danny, what's your role here at Skyline Enterprises?

Danny:
I’m the general manager of International Luge Development.

Andrew:
And what does that entail?

Danny:
We currently have a number of international Luge sites.
Two in Canada, one in Singapore, and one in Tongyeong, South Korea. My role is to go out and look at new sites, look at new opportunities, work out the feasibility of new Luge developments.
It's quite a busy role, a lot of travel, a lot of late night calls and yeah it keeps life interesting!

Andrew:
So Danny, what made you decide that you needed an acoustic booth?

Danny:
We're in a temporary office currently, our previous office is under construction, we're building a new office.
So we went from having our own private offices to an open plan.
And as I’m sure you're well aware, it's quite a lot noisier with an open plan office, and a lot of us are on calls - with Skyline being a larger company with offices across New Zealand and internationally, we needed something/somewhere to break away from the rest of the team to have those private conversations, those calls; so it made sense to get a pod.

Andrew:
What made you choose Hush?

Danny:
It was really the quality of the pod.
It's very soundproof, which is what we need in an open plan office. And some of the nice features like the dimmer, the air control with the fans, and the space - there is a lot of room in this pod. It's certainly roomy, which is what we wanted also.

Andrew:
Great and lastly, now that you've actually started using the Hush pod, what if anything has surprised you about it?

Danny:
We're really happy with it Andrew. The quality of finish is certainly what we expected, and you guys have done a fantastic job in terms of the installation, very professional. We're really, really thankful that we went ahead and purchased this.
The one surprising aspect of the pod is how quiet it is; we can't hear a thing outside and it's quite a noisy office. You can have those private conversations in here. Really pleased that we went ahead with the purchase, so thank you.
